The Kindred Spirit

The Kindred Spirit, the Atlanta based guitar and vocal trio who began performing together in Atlanta and then New York and throughout New England and the southeast from 1967 to 1970 is coming together again to record and perform this year, during the time of when the earth blooms with spring, on April 4th and 5th, 2008 - yes, now!!

Deborah McColl of Los Angeles, Phil Rolleston of Hillsboro, West Virginia and Thom Tollerson of Winder, Georgia got their start at the 12th Gate Coffeehouse sponsored by Atlanta’s Grace Methodist Church under the direction of Bruce Donnelly. They went on to play the Bottom of the Barrel, the Bistro, and performed a special show at Theatre Atlanta.

The Kindred Spirit moved to New York where they auditioned for the Bitter End in Greenwich Village immediately on arrival and got a job that week opening for Jerry Jeff Walker and David Bromberg. The Kindred Spirit went on to perform at The Gas Light, and Gerde’s Folk City in NYC.

College tours and performance visits back to Atlanta followed.

Deborah continued her musical career as a backup singer and opening act for Jimmy Buffet for eleven years. She has also led numerous bands and groups in the Los Angeles area; her most recent CD release is entitled Naked in the Garden.

Phil and Thom worked with the group Handle in Atlanta where they played the International Pop Festival, and throughout the years have been a part of vocal groups, duos, and bands while in West Virginia and the Los Angeles/Atlanta area respectively.

The trio performed once together in the 1980’s as featured entertainers for a 12th Gate reunion where they were broadcast live over WSB TV. Deborah McColl will be joining Thom and Phil for the  Kindred Spirit spring performances
