Songwriter, Levi Lowrey, transitioned from local musician to national act last summer by signing a record deal with, “Southern Ground Records,” a subsidiary of “Atlantic Records.” With the ink
still wet on the contract, Levi hit the road with Grammy nominated Zac Brown Band on the “Breaking Southern Ground Tour.”

“The tour has been a lot of fun, and a lot of travel. Sharing a stage with Zac Brown Band has introduced my songs to a brand new audience and given me an experience that so many local acts strive to reach but
never do. I’m inspired by their work ethic and knowledge of the industry and so when Zac shares his thoughts or advice, I tend to listen up.” –LEVI LOWREY

Believe it or not, Levi isn’t the first musician in his Dacula based family to hit the big time. Levi’s great-great- grandfather, Gid Tanner, didn’t just play country music; he was country music. Inducted
into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1988, Gid Tanner’s blend of old-timey country music, since of humor, and showmanship, made the group the most popular country music band in the United States between
1926 and 1931. Gid’s son, grandson, and great-grandson followed in his footsteps by keeping the Skillet Lickers alive after Gid’s death in 1960. Now, 83 years since Gid Tanner recorded Columbia Records first
“hillbilly recording,” his great great grandson gets the chance to revive the showmanship, since of humor, and folk roots, that Tanner first introduced to country music. Levi Lowrey, might just be the
first country artist to break out of Dacula since the original Skillet Lickers.

It’s been a life of music for Levi. He first began entertaining crowds at the age of 12, playing fiddle at bluegrass festivals and sometimes sharing a stage with the revived Skillet Lickers. After graduating
from Dacula High School, Levi went straight to work on his musical career starting “501 Recording Studio” in Lawrenceville, and playing lead guitar for the Atlanta rock band “Problem Thomas.” Recording
fellow songwriters introduced Levi to many of Gwinnett’s local musicians while playing Georgia’s rock scene in the early 2000s opened the doors to both Atlanta and Athens music venues.  By the time 2006
rolled around Levi had started his own group and named it after the Harbin’s Community House in Dacula. When asked about the name for his group, “Levi Lowrey and The Community House Band,” Levi answered,
“Generational families like mine from Harbins have used the community house for family reunions or events for a long time before I was born.  It is one of the places I first played in front of people. When I
used the building for my wedding reception, we got the idea that it would be honorable to name a band after the place. We don’t plan on forgetting where it is we come from.”

Levi’s band consists of himself singing lead vocals while playing guitar or fiddle. Danny McAdams leads guitars with his Fender Strat most of the time, but also plays Lap Steel and Harmonica. Billy
Wilkerson backs up Levi’s vocals and plays percussion. The bass player, Jon Daws, usually moves around the stage engaging the crowd, while Daniel McGill maintains the backbone of the group on drums.

“Levi Lowrey and The Community House Band” began playing music venues in Athens and Atlanta in 2006. They played over 200 shows in 2007, and even headlined an event at the famous Georgia Theater, before fire
crippled the historic venue.

With the rock scene drying up in Atlanta, the urban sounds of hip-hop had risen to the predominant style of music coming from the city. Still, there was another movement on the rise that included now
tour-mates, Zac Brown Band and Sonia Leigh. This movement, known as “Alternative Country,” is reminiscent of the type of music played by Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Jonny Cash and has become very popular among bar crowds. Levi’s brand of songwriting was a natural fit to the scene and the band rose in popularity fairly quickly.

“Supporting a family, wife and kids, has been no easy task when you’re living off of tip jars and whatever merchandising you can stick your name on.  I was very lucky that I had the recording equipment needed
to produce my own records. My family, and the band, pretty much had to live off of whatever we could sell at shows. We were very lucky to start playing our kind of music when we did.”- Levi Lowrey.

Levi Lowrey and The Community House Band’s last record “I’ve Held The Devils Hand,” is available on iTunes.  It was recorded over the course of a year in an abandoned church, a horse stable, and three basements in the Dacula /Harbins area.  Levi’s first record with Southern Ground Records will hit the shelves in 2010, and may include appearances by Darrell Scott (famous for writing Travis Tritt’s hit, “It’s a Great
Day To Be Alive”) and Hal Ketchum, (“Small Town Saturday Night”.)

The entire band hits the road in 2010 after playing two shows with Zac Brown Band at Ryman Auditorium, the original location of “The Grand Ole Opry.” “Walking out on a stage where every legend I look up to has
played is beyond words. Again, I am just thankful for the opportunity and support that all started in Gwinnett.”
